This Month's Trip
The November outing will be a backpacking trip to the Birkhead Mountains Wilderness in the Uwharrie National Forest. We will meet at the church at 3:30 on Friday afternoon, November 21, and return around noon on Sunday, November 23. There will be a longer hike of about 12 miles and a shorter hike for younger scouts. If you are First Class or above you are expected to go on the longer hike unless you get approval to go on the short hike. If you are not yet First Class then you should plan on the shorter hike unless you have been on a prior backpacking trip, thought the short distance was easy, and get approval to go on the longer trip. We plan to camp together both Friday and Saturday so patrols should plan meals together. Lunch and snacks for Saturday should be carried individually.
Note that we no longer allow ponchos as rain gear on backpacking trips -- you should have a raincoat and pants.
